Perspektivy měnové integrace Nového Zélandu

Abstract

The consequences of the Asian currency crisis and the launch of the euro in January 1999 prompted the New Zealand economists to adress the issue if it is appropriate for New Zealand to retain an independent monetary policy and free floating exchange rate of New Zealand dollar, or if it is better for the country to participate in some form of monetary integration. The aim of this theses is therefore to identify and evaluate alternative monetary integration scenarios of New Zealand. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on the theoretical background of monetary integration from the perspective of OCA theory and the theory of dollarization. The third chapter describes the New Zealand economy and its position in the region. Monetary integration alternatives are identified and evaluated in the fourth chapter. The fifth chapter summarizes the conclusions of the preceding chapters.
