Abstract

The diploma thesis deals with microplastics in the aquatic environment. The paper outlines characteristics and distribution of plastics and microplastics. Next part describes occurrence of microplastics in seas, rivers and drinkable water. The following part describes effects of microplastics on human health and animals well being. These two parts are backed up with studies and obtained results. Practical part describes the methodology and procedure for sampling, laboratory measurement and microscope observation. All the equipment and material used are mentioned in the methodology. The values are then compared and graphically displayed. Finally, overall assessment of the issue and recommendations are given.
