Abstract

Bioleaching is a simple and effective technology, thanks which it´s possible to obtain valuable metals from low-grade ores and metals. Recovery of metal from sulphide minerals is based on activity chemolitotrophy bacteria and fungi. There are two main bioleaching mechanisms, direct one and indirect one, during which time both of them go on simultaneously. Besides the industrial application microbial leaching has some potential for rehabilitation (remediation) of mining sites, detoxification of sewage sludge and soils contaminated with heavy metals. If we wanted to use bioleachnig for bioremediation of organic pollutants, so we find that problems of bioleaching are very different from those for heavy metal metals. However usage of knowledge from different branches may bring very useful finds. It would be ideal if the bioremediation system in bioleachnig processes maximised range of degradation of waste materials, simultaneously minimizing the level of toxic substances.
