Abstract

The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is the area where citizens, companies and other economic participants will make and receive payments in euro under the same basic conditions, rights and obligations, regardless of their location. The aim was to analyze the impact of an introduction of new rules of SEPA Scheme both on whole banking sector and on its users, namely on ČEZ Group. The first part is dedicated to SEPA Scheme vision, describes the benefits to individual stakeholders and the legal framework of payment system in EU. The next section is devoted to the detailed description of the SEPA payment instruments. The last part contains an analysis of an impact of the SEPA Scheme. For the banking sector the introduction of new rules will particularly represent a high volume of costs. Only in the longer term we will see if this investment was right. Unification of domestic and cross-border prices of payments will mean some savings for companies, but especially at the beginning it will be compensated by additional costs to change the systems. Because the new rules are only related to euro transactions, we will be able to use advantages of SEPA Scheme as lately as the Czech Republic will accept euro as its own national currency.
