Geochemická charakteristika říčního systému Stružka v katastru Orlová

Abstract

The aim of the diploma thesis was to evaluate the geochemical composition of river sediments of the Orlovská Stružka stream and to assess the possible influence of mine waters on their quality. The study area is located in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin, which has been affected by mining activities for a long time. Eight bottom sediments were collected and their elemental composition was determined by X-ray fluorescence. The obtained data were evaluated using an enrichment factor, which allows the identification of anthropogenic load. The results prove increased concentrations of Pb, Zn and Cu elements, with lead in particular showing significant enrichment. The obtained results demonstrate the influence of mine water discharge on the quality of bottom sediments of the monitored stream
