Abstract

The work being presented here conserns the matter of pollution of the river Ostravice in relation to the ichthyofauna. The work describes features and functions of watter, types of pollution, polluting substances, and their influence on ichthyofauna, the legislative concerning watter pollution and watter protection. Furthermore the Czech ichthyofauna is characterized as well as methods used in ichthyology to detect fish population. The work focuses on a selected section of the river Ostravice, the river stretch km 0 - 21, which is heavily burdened with heavy industry. There is a comparison of the watter quality of the selected river Ostravice section between 1980 – 2011 and descripton of the local fauna.
