Abstract

This diploma thesis is focused on the casting of an aluminum alloy gearbox. First, the company TATRA METALURGIE a.s. is introduced in the theoretical part, followed by a description of aluminum and Al-Si alloys. The next chapter deals with defects in castings from Al-Si alloys - bubbles, shrinkage, porosity and burnt-on sand and methods of melt gas control. The experimental part describes the technology of casting production and the rest of the work deals with the identification and analysis of defects that arise in the production of this casting. The chapter Discussion and evaluation of results is devoted to measures and possible suggestions what to focus on during production in order to prevent the occurrence of these defects.
