Abstract

The diploma thesis deals with the history of the coal mining in the Ostrava-Karvinná region with the accent to major accidents and work safety. There are some major events mentioned in the document in chronological order for reference. The key objective of the thesis is to carry out the detailed analysis of the events with the focus on their rootcauses and impact, considering the level and content of safety policies and instruction implemented. The initial part of the document describes the history and the recent development of black coal mining industry in the Ostrava-Karvinna region followed by the list of major accidents and emergency situations registered in this area. The following chapter is dedicated to the analysis of the rootcauses of these accidents and their consequences. The current readiness for emer-gency situations in connection with the safety regulations of the mining industry in the Czech Republic has been evaluated in the final part of the thesis. Finally, the thesis underlines the high impact of the accidents in the Ostrava-Karviná district
