Abstract

This thesis deals with the turbidimetric detection of sulphates in the different types of water. The method is based on the formation of stable microsuspension of barium sulphate. This can be achieved by precipitation of SO42- ions with barium ions in the presence of stabilizing agents. The study compares the results of using viscous glycerole, surfactants and quaternary amonium salts. Tetrabutylamonnium iodide was identified as the optimal reagent and used for subsequent validation of the turbidimetric method with the detection limit of 9,33 mg.l-1 and analytical range of 24,5 – 150 mg.l-1 SO42-.
