Abstract

Data published by bodies competent in the field of occupational safety oversight show that fatal accidents caused by fall from height occupy for several years now the highest ranking of statistics. This dissertation deals with, among other things, the problem of working in heights in industry and assesses some of the factors that arise when working at heights and can affect the occurrence of fatal work injuries, caused by a fall from height. It compares through the regression correlation analysis individual factors that can influence the occurrence of these injuries in the construction sector, where accidents at work due to falling from height occur most often. The doctoral thesis evaluates the state of the used personal protective equipment, or their improper and hazardous use in the workplace, and for the occupational activities in which they are used. Appraised protective devices were obtained from individual companies and self-employed persons directly from workplaces, that means, they have already been used in various work activities. These include, for example, protecting and working ropes, positioning devices and other accessories contaminated by industrial dust, facade paints, lyes, acids or mineral oils, i.e. harmful substances that workers may encounter in the workplace, which they may not know and which may affect the state of protective means when they are used. The state of the assessed, used personal protective equipment was evaluated in a test facility at test facilities, where their safety was verified under certain conditions. The dissertation also mentions the problems and deficiencies of horizontal and vertical securing systems, which are used at work at height. This work also highlights the inadequate training and practical training of high-level workers, the lack of support material for trainers, and other shortcomings that can be encountered by workers in this activity including physical effects such as free fall and pendulum movement. The aim of the thesis is to propose a Methodology for training centers, or for employers where it will be described the safe use of personal protective equipment using the rope techniques and safe practices that must be followed to ensure that work activities at height will be carried out safely.
