Abstract
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of safety when handling a selected hazardous chemical substance, specifically methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI). The theoretical part describes the basic concepts in the field of occupational health and safety, the characteristics of diisocyanates, their hazardous properties, and the relevant legal framework. The practical part of the thesis focuses on a specific manufacturing company where MDI is used within a PUR production line.
As part of the thesis, an analysis of the current state of workplace safety was carried out, including the identification and assessment of risks associated with handling this substance. Selected risk assessment methods were applied, namely the 5 Whys method, the point-based risk assessment method, and the risk matrix. Based on the obtained results, measures aimed at reducing risks and improving the level of employee health protection were proposed.
The results of the thesis highlight the importance of a systematic approach to risk management when working with hazardous chemical substances and emphasize the necessity of combining technical, organizational, and personal protective measures in practice
