Abstract
This thesis deals with the issues regarding optical fiber amplifiers that are used in current optical networks. Specifically, the thesis is aimed at Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers. The thesis is divided into three main parts.
The first part is focused on explanation of the essential theory for better understanding of functioning of optical amplifiers. In this part are described the principles of functioning of optical amplifiers and the types of optical amplifiers. Undesirable effects, which have negative influence on signal transmission and amplification, are also described in this part.
The second part of the thesis is focused on description of the design and assembling of Erbium-doped fiber amplifier as well as on detailed description of complete workplace. In this part is, in more detail, described the procedure of finding of the ideal length of Erbium-doped fiber, testing of influence of temperature on optical amplifiers. Finally, Erbium-doped fiber amplifier is connected to the WDM-PON network and the influence of temperature on amplification of optical amplifiers is tested.
Last part of the thesis deals with conversion of the real WDM-PON network into the simulations in Optiwave OptiSystem 14. Subsequently, the influence of temperature on optical amplifier is tested.
