Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of accession of the Republic of Turkey to the European Union. The paper aims to analyze how Turkey fulfilled the accession criteria in 2016 according to the European Commission's report (Turkey 2016 Report) and then compare the progress made by Turkey compared to the year 2015. The work characterizes the Republic of Turkey itself and Turkey's relations with the European Union. It further analyzes the progress of the country in the Copenhagen criteria, which it compares with the previous year and evaluates it. Analysis was found Turkey is not making progress in meeting the accession criteria, but it is still essential for both sides to lead these accession talks.
