Abstract

This work deals with hot rolled metal flow analysis. Influence of the primary and new calibration on penetration of plastic deformation and intensity of welding-up of pre-drilled cavities in 42CrMo4 steel was laboratory-tested. Extent of enclosure of cavities was compared between particular calibrations with the help of an optical microscope. There are some possible deficiencies occurring when rolling a block from a semi-finished billet outlined, such as high casting speed, uneven cooling, long temperature-holding time, low finishing temperature etc.,. The results of the experiment show that the extent of enclosure of cavities was influenced by rolling parameters, first of all by relative deformation rate, position of bores in reference to the rolled surface and calibration changes.
