Abstract

The master thesis deals with the mechanism of formation and decomposition of Widmanstätten austenite, which was formed during solidification in thin strips of grain oriented electrical steel (GOES) produced by strip casting technology. The theoretical part of thesis introduces the basic characteristics of GOES, describes the principle and the main advantages of strip casting technology and presents mechanisms of formation and decomposition of Widmanstätten austenite. The last chapter of the theoretical part is devoted to the description of the electron backscattered diffraction method (EBSD). The experimental part deals with the analysis results and descriptions of the microstructural processes that take place during solidification in belt-casted GOES strips. Microstructural analysis was realized by using a combination of different analytical techniques: light microscopy, scanning electron microscope (SEM) with electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for study of precipitation in GOES.
