Zhodnocení fungování vybraných zoologických zahrad v České republice

Abstract

This bachelor’s thesis focuses on evaluating the performance of selected zoological gardens in the Czech Republic during the years 2019–2023. The evaluation was limited to public contributory organizations established by municipalities or regional authorities. The aim of the thesis was to assess both performance and economic stability using a set of indicators categorized into performance and economic groups. Performance indicators included, for example, the number of employees per hectare, the number of animals per employee, and the number of animals per hectare. Economic indicators included revenues per visitor, personnel costs per employee, operating costs per hectare, and total costs per animal. The thesis applied quantitative analysis, classification (based on a 1–5 grading scale), and comparative methods to analyze and compare individual zoological gardens, grouped into small, medium, and large categories by their exhibition area. The results were processed using absolute and relative averages, which enabled the ranking of each zoo. The central research question was whether the size of the zoo plays a role in the evaluation based on these indicators. The findings showed that size is not a decisive factor, as smaller zoos often achieved excellent results. The hypothesis was therefore confirmed.
