Abstract

The aim of this diploma thesis is an evaluation of the financial performance of a company, which operates in the machinery industry. The diploma thesis is divided into five chapters where the first chapter is an introduction and the last chapter is a conclusion. The second chapter is about related theories to financial analysis and its ratios. The financial analysis and its methods are introduced in general, followed by the sources and the ways of interpretation of its outcomes. The groups of ratios are introduced as well - absolute ratios, differentiation ratios, comparative ratios and analysis of systems of ratios. The company, which is the subject of this diploma thesis is introduced in the third chapter. The appeal is put on fundamental information about the company, its core business, history and industry in which the company operates. The fourth chapter is dedicated to the use of different groups of ratios of financial analysis. The horizontal and vertical analysis is used to analyze financial statements. The differentiation ratios are used to evaluate the liquidity. The specific areas of the company are analyzed through the comparative ratios – rentability, liquidity, financial stability, dept, and activity ratios. The DuPont model is used to decompose the ROE. The results of financial analysis and its ratios are interpreted afterward.
