Abstract

The presented dissertation thesis deals with the issue of project portfolio management of an industrial company. It examines current trends in the field with a focus on the usage of agile principles in project portfolio management of an industrial company. Current researches generally describe the benefits of agile elements in project portfolio management but do not adequately address which agile principles are suitable for project portfolio management, integration of agile principles into project portfolio management as a key approach to project portfolio management and there is no methodology using agile principles in project portfolio management. This drawback has motivated author to define following objectives of this dissertation thesis: • Analysis of the current state of knowledge which will define which projects are being addressed across industrial companies, what is the level of knowledge and application of agile principles in industrial companies for project, program and project portfolio management, strengths and weaknesses of project portfolio management in industrial companies. • Development of a methodology for implementation of agile principles which will be based on the results of research in the industrial environment, consider the links between inputs and outputs, consider individual phases of project portfolio management, consider the current usage but also the importance of individual tools in the context of project portfolio management of industrial companies, include lists of recommendations for the application of agile principles and will be publicly available, flexible, transferable, comprehensible, general and practical. • Verification of the methodology through an expert verification. Within the fulfillment of the first of the stated goal, the thesis includes the definition of the theory of project portfolio management of an industrial company and the basics of agile management. Furthermore, the survey is linked to this goal to determine the current level of knowledge and application of agile principles in industrial companies and to determine the current state of project portfolio management. The main goal of this work is to build a methodology for the implementation of agile principles in the management of industrial project projects, which eliminates the drawback of current models of project portfolio management, and which is verified by expert verification at the end.
