Abstract

This Bachelor thesis introduces the topic of Optical Fibre and their Fusion splicing. Optical Fibres are becoming more and more useful in telecommunications nowadays, because they reach lower attenuation in comparison to the metal wires, but mainly, they provide much higher bandwidths. They are also immune to the electromagnetic interference and unable to overhear. First part of this thesis explains the function of optical fibres, describes their characteristics and their division. Next part focuses on the losses in the optical fibre and methods of measuring these losses. Last theoretical part is dealing with the fusion splicing of optical fibres and methods of findings the loss on the splice. After these three theoretical parts, there is a part focusing on the results and findings from measuring. The whole work ends with a conclusion, containing the results and most valuable observations which have been found during the measuring.
