Abstract

Historic masonry structures are relatively common in our country. In the case of reconstruction, it is necessary to understand the issues of technical building surveys and also restoration. For this reason, in the theoretical parts of the work are described used historical materials for creation various types of construction elements. Material called Roman cement is also described as it was used in the past and was abandoned due to the reason of constant development of new materials with better characteristics. Currently, Roman cement and materials with similar properties are reused, especially in the area of restoration. The practical part is focused on making acquainted with the materials during professional internship. Experimental part includes tests for verification and determination of the characteristics of Roman cement from two different producers (Vicat and Remmers), which are required in restoration. This material is further compared with conventional materials such as lime and cement.
