Abstract

This thesis elaborates on reading vertical road signs in an image, specifically speed limit signs that are most commonly ignored by drivers. The main objective is to create a real-time application that informs drivers about the maximum speed in their current area. The thesis contains theoretical basics of image processing methods used in the implementation. The program is based on the circle detection in a colored image, object recognition inside the traffic sign uses templates of particular numbers which are compared with already recognized objects. Application was tested on video sequences recorded in different light conditions and results are elaborately described.
