Abstract
This thesis deals with the biochemical identification of bacteria from the Poproč tailing pond , which is as a result of mining antimony ore contaminated by metals. The first chapter focuses on the role of indigenous microflora in the pond environment after mining. It deals with the manifestations of anthropogenic impact of mining on the landscape,
the role of bacteria in reducing concentrations of contaminants in the environment
and their impact on the possible revitalization. Consequent part of the thesis focuses
on the identification of indigenous micro-organisms; Basic methods of research including microscopic, cultivational, genetic, serologic and biochemical are introduced here. Experimental part focuses on the identification of microflora in the tailing pond,
and in particular on the identification of Gram-positive bacteria. Microorganisms were separated after sampling, cultivated in a growth media and prepared to be identified by
the BIOLOG system. The last chapter is devoted to discussing the results with regard
to the occurrence of observed taxonomic genus Arthrobacter, Bacillus, Brevibacterium
and Paenibacillus.
