Abstract
This work is focused on structural and mechanical properties of amorphous SiO2 called silica. One of the reasons for the attention devoted to this material is its widespread use in many fields of modern technologies, ranging from telecommunications to microelectronics. Moreo-ver, due to its simple structure, silica has always been considered a model system for study of the properties of amorphous materials.
An experimental section is devoted to study of particle-size distribution of amorphous SiO2: effects on sintering kinetics. Realization of an experiment by carrying out several firing cycles of identical test bars made from fused silica. In the next step statistical evaluation of modulus of rupture of the test bars (fired in different number of firing cycles) was done. Metallographic evaluation of failure surface structure has been done finally.
