Abstract
The diploma thesis deals with the possibility of replacing the Direct Chill Casting (DC) technology in the production of aluminium bottle caps with the technology of Twin-Roll Casting (TRC). The theoretical part is divided into two main parts. Chapter one and chapter two describe the general material requirements for the bottle caps and aluminium alloys which are used for production of the bottle caps. Special attention is paid to anisotropy and its evaluation. Chapters three, four and five describe and compare the technologies of Direct Chill Casting and Twin-Roll Casting. The subsequent processing of materials for the bottle caps is also described.
The experimental part deals with the processing of continuously cast material in order to achieve the desired material properties for bottle caps. The continuously cast material is compared with the material produced by Direct Chill Casting. Anisotropy is evaluated between the two materials based on difference in mechanical properties between longitudinal and transverse directions and by EBSD method. The main focus is on the EN AW-8011 alloy.
