The aim of the master thesis is to assess the security of railway stations against terrorist attacks and to propose measures to increase their protection based on the findings. The thesis defines the concepts of terrorism, soft targets and railway stations in the introduction. Then the thesis describes soft targets and their security. Subsequently, terrorism, its evolution, types, methods and a list of terrorist organizations that have committed terrorist attacks on railway stations and information on terrorism in transport are described. Finally, a description of railway stations is also provided. The main part of the thesis focuses on the assessment of terrorist attacks on railway stations in Europe between 2000 and 2022, followed by an analysis of the information found. Based on all the data obtained, appropriate security measures are proposed to increase the level of protection of railway stations.
