Abstract

Oxide systems are the basis of casting powders and metallurgical slags. The optimum slag mode depends mainly on the chemical composition and temperature. Rheological behavior plays important role in a number of technological operations. For graphical representations of rheological behavior are used flow curves. Flow curves determine newtonian or non-newtonian fluid. Viscosity, which is a rheological value, is an important criterion, which it influencing properties of slags. The successful process of metallurgical reactions depends on viscosity. Experimental measurements of dynamic viscosity were carried out by the rotating viscometer Anton Paar. Ternary oxide system SiO2-CaO-Al2O3 was chosen for the determination dependence of viscosity on temperature and concentration. This system represents a simplified base of the casting powder used for the continuous casting of steel. A concentration series with gradual substitution of CaO for MgO was prepared for this system. The aim of this bachelor work was assess the influence of gradual replacement of calcium oxide by magnesium oxide on registered properties.
