Abstract

This thesis deals with the removal of pollutants from the foundry sand in laboratory conditions. Biodegradation by Pseudomonas putida bacterial cultures, bacterial cultures of Rhodococcus sp. and mixed cultures of these two bacteria was applied for the given sample. Subscribed pollutants for decontamination of foundry sands were nonpolar extractable substances and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon. These substanties were characterized in detail, their methods of determination and effects on human health were described. The thesis contains a review of the ex - situ and in - situ methods leading to the degradation of environmental pollutants, which is followed by their descriptions and set of optimal conditions. An evaluation of the biodegradation process in the form of graphs and tables is included at the end of the thesis.
