Abstract

There are no doubts about existence of the need to transfer and store information. One of the ways consists in using physical quantity, whose parameters change in time and in these changes the information is coded. Most quantities are analog in principle, while modern storage devices and transfer media ale digital. Therefore the conversion from analog to digital state and vice-versa is required. On one hand there are demands for the highest possible quality, on the other hand minimalization of costs and economic operation is required. Compromise between these opposite demands is needed to be found. To have the possibility of finding appropriate compromise there is the need of understanding the principle of conversion and knowing how particular parameters affect quality. This is analyzed in the text, including comparison of ideal and real situation. Then the effects related to analog-digital conversion and ways to minimalize the data loss are described. On the enclosed CD there also is block for signal digitalization made in Matlab-Simulink software.
