Abstract

The aim of the thesis “Problems of effective intermunicipal cooperation” is to analyse the cooperation of municipalities - members of a particular voluntary association of municipalities (a case study), in drinking water supply within their territories. The first part focuses on both historical and contemporary background of the development of municipalities, a theoretical definition of the intermunicipal cooperation in terms of its forms and a municipal budget as a source of funding of a possible municipal development. The second part concentrates on the analysis of a particular voluntary association of municipalities, including the purpose and form of its establishment, its characteristics, description of its member municipalities and, last but not least, the process of application of the project and the application-related problems. The conclusion presents results of the analysis and their comparison with theoretical predispositions for municipal cooperation as well as suggestions and recommendations for improvement of the cooperation and further function of the voluntary association.
