Abstract
The thesis focuses on evaluating the development of the prevalence of mental illness in the adult population in selected regions of the Czech Republic during the period 2019–2023. The analysis is based on data from the Olomouc, South Bohemian, and Zlín Regions, selected due to their similar adult population sizes. The aim of the thesis is to assess the development of the prevalence of mental illness in the adult population of the selected regions over the period 2019–2023 according to the F00–F99 diagnostic categories classified under ICD-10. A secondary objective is to determine which of the selected regions shows the highest level of overall mental health burden based on the weighted score of the prevalence rate and the weighted score of the average prevalence for the period 2019–2023.
The methodological framework is based on the calculation of prevalence rate and average prevalence, combined with the application of the multi-criteria Weighted Sum Model. This method enables a comprehensive assessment based on pre-assigned weights, where higher prevalence corresponds to a higher weight in the evaluation. The weights were assigned according to the level of prevalence across different age categories and between genders.
The results of the analysis confirm a long-term increasing trend in the prevalence of mental illness across all monitored regions. The Olomouc Region shows the highest level of overall mental burden for the entire monitored period, while the Zlín Region records the lowest burden. In terms of diagnoses, the most significant burden is associated with disorders from the F40–F48 diagnostic category (neurotic, stress-related, and somatoform disorders), followed by affective disorders (F30–F39). The results provide suggestions for more targeted planning of health and social services and can serve as supporting material for decision-making in the field of public health.
