Abstract
Introducing the Euro means further step in the process of the european integration. Currently, the Euro brings its benefits to inhabitants in already sixteen countries of the European Union. In return, national central banks in these countries must have passed their competences to the supranational institution – to the European Central Bank.
The Diploma Thesis observes the four Visegrad countries on their way to the euro area. The aim is to compare level of preparation for introducing the Euro in particular V4 countries.
Firstly, the Thesis describes important milestones in the process of creating the euro area since the beginning of 1970s until the introduction of the Euro cash in 2002. The Thesis considers V4 countries becuase of the variety of aspects which are in common for all these four countries – such as geographical closeness, similar political and economic development. Despite this fact, their attitude towards the Euro introduction differs.
The prerequisite for the euro introduction is the fulfilment of the convergence criteria, which are defined by the Maastricht Treaty. The evalution of the fulfilment of the convergence criteria is analyzed in the third chapter of the Thesis. Except these economic conditions, the political will for the Euro adoption is also necessary, which is commented in the final part of this Thesis.
