Abstract
This bachelor’s thesis focuses on assessing employee benefits and motivation at a selected company, with the primary objective being to evaluate the quality and utilization of existing employee benefits. Based on the findings, recommendations and measures are formulated that could lead to improvements in the current compensation system. The thesis is divided into two parts: a theoretical section and a practical section. The theoretical part clarifies basic concepts, the classification of motivation, sources of motivation, and more. Attention is also given to selected theories of motivation—instrumentality theory, content-focused theories, and process-focused theories. Furthermore, the issue of compensation (wages, variable components, and benefits themselves) is described. As previously mentioned, in the practical section, a survey was conducted to assess benefits at a selected anonymous company, which the author refers to as Company XY. Through 34 questions, it was found that employees (who are mostly from the older generation) perceive benefits as outdated; benefits do not encourage exceptional performance and are generally viewed by employees as a given that is part of the job in today’s world. To increase satisfaction, four changes were proposed, including the introduction of sick days, contributions to a supplemental pension plan, a suggestion box, and a cafeteria plan with a fixed core, the design of which is included directly in the thesis. The implementation of these ideas will promote work-life balance, provide security for the future, and foster communication between staff and management; furthermore, the cafeteria plan achieves a compromise in the implementation of employee benefits.
