Thermal stability of Ti processed by SPD technology

Abstract

The theoretical part of this thesis deals with the production of ultrafine grained titanium by a process called severe plastic deformation. Titanium is then described in terms of its thermal stability together with examples of other materials including magnesium and aluminum. Microstructure characterization techniques follow and there is a brief introduction to titanium description as a biomaterial. The experimental part is focused on severe plastic deformed commercially pure titanium grade 4 with its trade name 4TiTUDE®. The microstructure of 4TiTUDE® rod in the as-received state and after annealing at 300 and 450 °C was examined by light and transmission electron microscopy methods.
