Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with family policy in Slovakia. The family as a subject of family policy is an issue not only of the social but also of the economic sphere. The aim of this thesis is to point out the importance of family policy, define its functions, show its current form, as well as its development over time and describe the factors that affect the creation of family. The theoretical part describes and analyzes the institutional, legislative and economic framework of the family policy. The empirical part compares the expenditure on social benefits for families as a factor of family support, unemployment benefits as an economic factor and attention is paid to equal opportunities, especially for young mothers as a disadvantaged at the labor market due to a lack of flexible job opportunities and a lack of formal care for children under three years of age. The comparison also deals with the development of housing expenditures, as another factor influencing reproductive behavior. From the performed analysis, conclusions are formulated, shortcomings are summarized and possible measures to improve the current situation of family policy in Slovakia are proposed.
