Abstract

Optic strain gauges belong to group of fiber optic sensors. They are used to measure tension on component surface by measuring its deformation. For experimental testing of usage optic strain gauge in car industry was used remote-controlled car model in 1:10 scale. This model was equipped with aluminum construction, to which can be mounted optical strain gauge. Due to five measuring positions on the vehicle and the four possible orientations of the strain gauge installation was achieved 20 unique measure configurations. In each configuration, the optical strain gauge captured processes during impact of the vehicle to a fixed obstacle. Captured processes have been mathematically adjusted to amplitude spectrums, which are unique for each measurement combinations. Due to knowledge of amplitude spectrum of moving vehicle was allowed to calculate transfer functions for each measurement configurations. After applying the transfer decision-making levels was allowed to determine the number of significant frequencies for each configuration. The number of frequencies allowed to finding the best location for optical strain gauge on the vehicle.
