Abstract
In this work the dependencies between oxygen and the resulting properties of cast iron are investigated. Experiments were performed with modified and non-modified graphitic iron. The oxygen content was measured in molten iron using the probes, which measured the activity of oxygen in the melt. Oxygen activity was measured even in the cured casting furnace unit. Subsequently the total oxygen content in the form of carbon (Oox) was investigated in the testing castings using high extraction. The values of a0 and total content were correlated with mechanical and structural properties of cast iron.
