Abstract
This thesis is focused on design of diagnostic system for detecting surface defects on rail wheels. The theoretical part describes the concepts related to work. There are quoted NDT methods, their principles and laws of physics, diagnostic procedures and types of material defects. practical part aims to try automatization of the detection and evaluation of defects found in magnetic-powder NDT method. A diagnostic system will and gradient method for detecting surface defects using optical methods will be designed according to testing. There is an evaluation test and a statement of whether the aim of thesis was fulfilled at the end of the thesis.
