Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with observation and verification of possible occurrence of hydrocarbon containment in liquid or gas form in sediments from Vendryně formation strata layers, of the Outer Western Carpathians. In the beginning thesis is elaborated from the geological evolution of the area, mainly focused on Vendryně formation strata layers. Then it deals with characteristics of hydrocarbons, their origin and occurrence. Then localization and documentation of samples taken along the river Olše follows. Next part of this thesis deals with procedure of lab processing of samples and different analyses, which involve determination of organic carbon content, composition of organic matter in rock and type of kerogen, thermal transformation of organic matter and determination of water and oil content in rock. In the last part of this thesis, the samples are evaluated according to the performed analysis. The evaluation will be used for further research, followed by discussion and comparison of obtained results.
