Abstract
Ion exchange resins (ion exchangers) are nowadays an integral part of many industrial processes thanks to the advanced research and a detailed understanding of the structure of various types of ion exchangers and their mechanism of ion exchange. Ion exchange resins are capable of selectively removing a selected substance or a metal from almost any solution. This bachelor thesis focuses on the use of ion exchangers in the process of dealing with the extraction of metals from solutions. The paper summarizes the basic now commercially used technology used in extraction or recovery of rare or strategic importance and other metals from various source matrices. The use of ion exchangers in these technological processes is mainly for removing of the relevant metal ions from the solution, which was achieved during the chemical leaching source metal matrix. The captured metal in ion exchange resin can be recovered by following elution of the resin to obtain the solution of high concentration of the appropriate metal, without other impurities. The key technology that uses these properties of ion exchangers are hydrometallurgy and processes associated with the production of drinking water and water for industrial purposes.
