Abstract
This Bachelor's thesis focuses on the meaning and benefits of probationary and mediation service during mediation of socially beneficial resolution of conflicts, performance of alternative punishments, out-of-court settlements and accepting of resolutions of conflicts by third parties from the point of view of current literature. The aim of this work is to show how this institution assists during application of alternative punishments and how the society perceives the institution. It presents this institution as a body of the Ministry of Justice, which offers arranges assistance not only for persons who are criminally prosecuted and sentenced, but also for the victims of crime. Based on the findings of a respondent survey, this work also examines whether members of the public are familiar with this institution, and whether they accept it and trust acknowledge its benefits. The main points of reference for this work are Act No. 257/2000, on probationary and mediation service, new Act No. 40/2009 of the criminal code and Act No. 161/1961 of the criminal code, which has been amended several times, most recently by Act No. 306/2009.
