Abstract
The thesis deals with the study of adsorption of carbonaceous materials prepared from waste biomass for the removal of ibuprofen from aqueous environment. In the experimental part, carbonaceous materials modified with potassium hydroxide (KOH) in different ratios were prepared and the kinetics and equilibrium state of adsorption were studied. The physicochemical properties of the adsorbent were also monitored using ASTM, CHNS, TGA, XRF, physisorption, FTIR, XRD and SEM-EDX analytical methods. The highest adsorption capacity was achieved for the PN-KOH-1 : 1 sample, which was related to the significantly higher porosity and specific surface area. The results also confirmed that the adsorption process is influenced by the pH of the environment and occurs predominantly
on a heterogeneous surface controlled by chemisorption. The results obtained demonstrate the use of carbonaceous materials from waste biomass as a potential adsorbent for the elimination of ibuprofen from wastewater.
