Abstract
The PhD thesis is focused on macrosegregation behaviour of carbon during solidification of high carbon steel grades cast into billets. The paper is divided into several parts. The first one contains detailed literary search about forming of macrosegregation morphology with the emphasis to describe effect of electromagnetic stirring applied in upper strand parts (i. e. M-EMS, S-EMS). Based on the gained theoretical information, a set of experiments were performed to examine the relationship between the final morphology and casting parameters. The findings revealed a few very important parts of the strand responsible for the final macrostructure, improved knowledge about impact of the electromagnetic stirring on carbon distribution in cast structure, defined significant macrosegregation parameters influencing the properties of final products and helped to specify more precisely last stages of the solidification process in rigid mushy zone.
