Abstract
The aim of this work is to demonstrate the possibility of intensification of organic substances' decomposition processes occuring in sewage plant fermentation chambers by adding microbiological product and an innovative way of transforming an organic substance, namely the mixture of organic municipal sludge with waste grass, leaves and branches in a nonstandard process of composting into organic fertilizer.
Sludge from „Boguszowice“ sewage plant is co-fermented in the average temperature of 12°C together with food waste, waste fats, whey and sludge from smaller sewage plants. In order to intensify fermentation and waste hygienization processes the microbiological product was used. Results of the preliminary examination have shown the intensification of fermentation process and the average mineralization level of dry organic matter varying from 50% to 55% which is about 5% better than previous results when the formulation was not used. After dehydration, the municipal sludge that is formulated is transported to composting plant where it is mixed with green waste, mainly grass.
The proposed method is based on mixing grass waste with stabilized municipal sludge and adding microbiological formula which causes the replacement of fermentation processes with combination of aerobic and anaerobic processes.
