Abstract

The topic of the thesis was The Impact of Digitization on the Performance of Public Library Services. The aim of the thesis was to evaluate the influence of digitization on the performance of the Moravian-Silesian Scientific Library in Ostrava during the period from 2013 to 2022. The thesis was structured into seven chapters and based on valid legislation as of March 1, 2024. The theoretical part focused on defining basic concepts in the field of public services and public libraries. The concept of public service, library, and library system in the Czech Republic, services of public libraries, digitization of public library services, approaches, and models for evaluating performance in public services were defined. In the practical part, the emphasis was on evaluating the degree of dynamic time series and assessing technical efficiency according to the DEA model for the period from 2013 to 2022. For the purposes of the thesis, primarily publicly available information and data were used, specifically the annual reports of the Moravian-Silesian Scientific Library in Ostrava. After evaluating the results using selected methods, possibilities for improvement were discussed.
