Abstract

The diploma thesis focuses on the process of vermicomposting as one of the methods of aerobic degradation of biowaste and on the environmental risk of microbial contamination of the products resulting out of this process, and used as fertilizers. The introductory part summarizes the theory of the subject matter from the point of view of the valid legislation, the individual processes of vermicomposting itself used in the Czech Republic and pathogenic microorganisms that might be present in input samples of biowaste and they might pose a potential environmental risk of microbiological contamination of fertilizers and subsequently agricultural land. The practical part deals with the microbiological examination of the input samples of animal excrements and compost output samples as one of the products of vermicomposting. The key question of this experiment is to determine the degree of hygienisation of this type of hazardous biowaste in the vermicomposting process.
