Abstract
The dissertation deals with the issue of availability of building stone in the Czech Republic and the use of by-products resulting from the extraction and treatment of crushed aggregate as an input for the production of new products.
The issue is addressed by analysing data on building stone reserves, extraction and consumption. The dissertation includes a mapping of the raw material base of building stone in all regions of the Czech Republic. A sub-focus of the thesis is an overview of the planned major road and rail transport infrastructure projects, their impact on the consumption of stone and their relation to the availability of building stone. On the basis of the analysis of building stone stocks, their service life was modelled with different criteria.
From the empirical data obtained by questionnaire survey of selected quarries in the Moravian-Silesian region, the amount of by-products almost without use today was analysed. The experimental part focused on the research of their composition and properties and the proposal of possibilities of their application. An acceptable result requiring further development is the use of the products in the production of artificial aggregate. The processing of all the accompanying products should have a positive effect in terms of economic, ecological and, above all, prospective influence on the extension of the life of the mined reserves.
