Abstract
This thesis deals with the design of a small water reservoir with retention capabilities in the cadastral area of the town of Bílovec in the Moravian-Silesian Region. The main objective of this thesis is to propose a water management measure that will contribute to increasing the landscape’s retention capacity, slowing surface runoff, and reducing peak flows during flood events. The study area is assessed with regard to natural, hydrological, climatic, and land-use planning conditions, including the context of the flood events of 1997 and 2024.
The theoretical section of this thesis summarizes the legislative and technical foundations for the design of small water reservoirs. Attention is given to their functions within the landscape, the layout of the reservoir area, the principles of earthen dam design, discharge structures, safety spillways, and elements used to divert and mitigate flood flows. These findings form the basis for the actual design solution.
The practical component focuses on the technical design of a small reservoir, including the design of the inundation area, the reservoir bottom, and the surrounding area, as well as the design of the dam body, the combined functional structure, the outlet structure, the safety spillway, and the associated drainage channels. The work includes bathymetric curves, determination of flooded areas and water volumes at various water levels, and an evaluation of the reservoir’s storage capacity. The total storage capacity is 60,135 m³.
The design is supported by hydrotechnical calculations, an assessment of the capacity of the outlet structures and the safety spillway, a design for channel reinforcement, and drawing documentation. The results of the flood wave transformation for the design flow Q100 demonstrate that the proposed reservoir is capable of significantly reducing the peak discharge to a value corresponding to approximately Q2. The proposed solution thus fulfills a retention and flood control function while also serving as a landscape feature that supports water management in the area.
