Abstract

This bachelor’s thesis examines the potential uses of remote sensing data to support decision-making in agriculture. The theoretical section summarizes the principles of remote sensing, selected satellite systems, and spectral indices that can be used to assess vegetation and water stress. The practical part focuses on the Pohořelice area in the South Moravian Region, where the 2021 and 2022 growing seasons were compared across eight LPIS soil blocks. Using Sentinel-2 data, the spectral indices NDVI, NDRE, NDMI, and other supplementary indices were calculated in Google Earth Engine. The results show differences between crops as well as between the years under study and highlight both the potential and limitations of using satellite data in assessing vegetation condition. The study demonstrates that remote sensing can serve as a supporting tool for monitoring vegetation condition and identifying differences within land parcels, rather than as standalone evidence of the cause of vegetation stress.
