Brainstorming – bronzový odlitek lidského mozku

Abstract

The bachelor thesis deals with the production of a stylized bronze casting of a human brain in real scale. In the theoretical part of the thesis, with regard to the chosen topic, the areas of anatomy and pathology of the human brain, as well as the functioning of the human mind are addressed. Apart from these issues, the research also focuses on figurative art and anatomical representations of the human body throughout the history of art from prehistoric times to the present. In the practical part, the actual process of making a casting is summarized in detail, from design to final processing. The individual chapters describe the sub-steps and methods chosen, including the materials and technologies used. First, attention is given to the sculptural methods and techniques involved in the production of the clay model, the layered silicone mould and the resin pattern. Next, the actual technology of producing the casting by casting bronze into a disposable sand mould using a sand core made from a self-setting furan mixture is discussed. The final part outlines the possibilities of finishing and surface treatment of the final casting.
