Abstract

The dissertation thesis deals with the issue of increasing the adaptability of the residential environment, the flexibility of flats, and ensuring the need for dignified and adequate housing, which will be usable for every user. It is base on the principles and knowledge of universal design. Currently, up to 40% of the European population (10% in the Czech Republic) are disabled, elderly or people with temporarily limited mobility. It is therefore desirable to ensure accessibility not only for the built environment but also for them even in the apartment itself and its internal layout so that, using minimal adjustments to meet their needs throughout their lives. The dissertation aims to determine the extent and possibilities of adaptability of the existing housing stock by defining the so-called typical apartment. The determination is by processing quantitative data acquired in the surveyed site), and then applying essential criteria and technical requirements (based on analysis of the current state of knowledge issues). That has to ensure the use of all these persons without distinction.
